UPDATE 1/3/18: I decided to reread this after reading an essay on the themes and the messages. I really enjoyed rereading the Little Prince's adventures and experiences on the other planets and what he's learned from each person (from the geographer to the king). I think my favorite lesson would had to have been his encounter with the fox, who teaches him how love is created from the experiences and time spent with someone (or thing, in this case, his Rose). It's such a great reflection of how there are a million other roses just like the one the Little Prince treasures, but it really just comes down to his experience and time with his Rose that he loves her so much. He ultimately grows and comes to realize no one is the same as his Rose and it makes him return to his planet to be with her. For such a short book, it offers such a great read.
12/13/15: This book wasn't what I expected. It was light with an undertone of something sad and cynical. The Little Prince travels across the universe and doesn't find goodness on any planet he visits. On each planet, the inhabitant only thinks of himself. It's sad and I'm sad that I didn't fully get each message that's placed in each story.

I chose to read this book because it was part of PBS' The Great American Read. I've encountered it from time to time, and had it recommended, but never felt compelled to read it until now. I'm glad for the push. I'm glad I can say I've read it, but I only mildly enjoyed a book that so many seem to love. I can see why so many are moved by it, and am disappointed that I didn't have the same reading experience.
