Audrey is getting married to Josh, but on her wedding day and the day before, all is going wrong. There’s many bad omens, the biggest being the appearance of Fred at her rehearsal dinner. Fred was Audrey’s what if guy, who she met and last saw 6 years ago. As the days go on, the story takes us back into Audrey’s past, when she met Fred and why she has certain ideas and feelings about love and marriage for herself. Audrey had to decide if she’s going to marry Josh or go with Fred, the one or the who got away.
I didn’t really love this, it was a somewhat enjoyable read, and funny at times, it did keep me reading. I think the issue comes in Audrey, I really didn’t love her or connect with her. I found her to be very immature and selfish, just all over the place, which is fine, it’s just not for me. I didn’t feel the connection between her and Josh and really don’t think they’re right for each other. The Fred aspect plays such a small part in the story, so does the general romance, I don’t feel like I got the story I was sold. This story primarily goes back and forth between Audrey debating on marrying Josh, and going back into her past life with her mother and her many marriages. I didn’t mind Audrey’s friends but her mother drove me insane. She’s a horrible, horrible person. What bothered me especially was that Audrey took all her mothers mistakes upon herself, as if it was her own fault, which didn’t make any sense to me. I couldn’t stand her mother and the forgiveness there. I feel like in the authors last three books, there’s always a major issue with the mother that I really dislike, the mother is always the “bad guy” and I really wonder what that’s about and why it’s included. I didn’t mind Audrey’s friends, but they were also selfish, especially on her wedding day making it all about themselves! This is definitely my least favourite from the author. It took me a bit to get through and I just didn’t get it or connect with it. It really isn’t a story about choosing the right guy at all. so full disclosure...I thought I'd hate this book. I thought it would go in a direction that I absolutely despise, but I'm so happy to say that the ending was perfection for me!

I adore this author’s writing! Sophie Cousens embraces and poked fun at many of the tropes found in this genre. She is able to balance serious, heavy topics with a light-hearted touch.
As a future bride myself, there were many insightful moments in this book and some that made me roll my eyes. Aubrey was selfish, childish and hurt those close to her which made it difficult to root for her. Her conflict just wasn’t strong enough to make it realistic.
Overall pretty enjoyable and I can’t wait to read more by this author. 3.5 stars
