Pacing was slow at first, while we got acquainted with the characters, and I found myself wanting to get to the next person’s perspective quicker. Sped up to a comfortable pace a bit before the midpoint.

If you’ve seen the movie first, this is pretty different story-wise, but as in most cases, the book is better. :)

Hehe. I enjoyed it. Though, the flow of the book was a little odd to me.

Super fun audiobook, I loved the narrator and the emotion she adds to the characters.

The characters gave me mixed emotions. It was interesting to see that most of the "antagonists" in this book are the older generation who put money and inheritance above all else. With each generation above the last leaning more toward the importance of money. While the younger generation, specifically Nick but others like Astrid, seem to be ignoring the importance of money and put love first. which I think reflects the real-life generational divides we all experience with our older family members as we navigate a changing world. of course, there were a few that care, but even then it seemed to be more of a push from their families rather than true ambitions.

All the characters are flawed, complex, or at the very least had blind spots that make them interesting. which was great to see with such a large cast. Characters that I thought were just for exposition ended up being vital to the story and the characters' progression. So many ended up being two-faced which made it hard to guess who was actually on Rachel's side and who wasn't. It was a guessing game until the end. I am very much looking forward to reading the sequel and seeing how things progress.

I liked this book more than I expected to! I saw the movie a few years ago, but the story is more complex and nuanced than the movie. I'm honestly really impressed that a man can write such a compelling novel about mostly women. This is definitely more than just a "chick lit"/"beach read" (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

This is completely out of my normal reading preferences, but I needed a palette cleanser. And it turns out I really enjoy a lighter read once in awhile! This was a really fun read, and I devoured it in like two days. There were times that this ogling at the mega-rich was fun and entertaining, but it did wear on me a bit eventually. The constant obsession with wealth and status felt frustrating at times, knowing how much impact that money could have if directed in a different manner. I know it’s fiction, but we all know this kind of stuff goes on in real life all the time. I actually found Astrid’s storyline on the side to be the most interesting. Especially when she’s in Paris! Having been there so recently made me appreciate those sections so much. I don’t know that I truly care what happens to these characters, but I’ll probably read the next book just because the reading journey here was so fun!
