I'm letting myself let this one go, DNF.

This started out as a really fun read. However, with each passing chapter it became more tedious, the characters become less likeable, and the author's prejudices became more evident.

I did enjoy this movie for what it was, I don't need the book.

my favourite thing about this was seeing rich east asians flaunt their money, that was it. the plot was meh, very predictable and the ending was so vague. there was no growth of characters and the main characters were very flat. i also didn't like the use of a lot of racial slurs and the term exotic used to describe good looking asian people, felt creepy

I was starting to feel fatigued with this book about halfway through. I think it was a combination of the detailed descriptions (I’m mixed on this—I enjoyed visualizing and immersing myself in the glitzy stuff but I also wanted the story to get on with it) and some of the very shallow characters. For example: Eddie. I don’t really understand the point of him being there other than to add an extra coating of crazy rich (which, again, while entertaining I just wanted the story to moooove). Once we got to the wedding everything started rolling and I couldn’t put the book down. Nick finally getting a clue and standing up for Rachel was so satisfying. I absolutely loved the last handful of pages where we learn about Kerry’s past. At first I wasn’t sure if I would continue on to the next book in the trilogy but now I’m interested to read more about what happens next, especially with Astrid.

i don’t really know what to say about this.
i expected this to be really funny and lighthearted, but it didn’t really live up to my expectations.

firstly, there is very little plot.
most of this book is just crazy rich asians gossiping and estimating how much x is worth and whether they’re worthy of being with, followed by long descriptions of luxurious properties and their interior or the designer someone wore. for me personally, it was really hard to get through and i found myself skimming a lot of it.
the most crucial flaw for me was probably the character’s personality, or lack thereof. they all were shallow and unlikable with very few exceptions, but even those weren’t fleshed out at all. i know the cast is supposed to be that way, but it just wasn’t interesting to me and the characters just could not bring me to care enough, which is why i almost dnf’ed it. in retrospect, maybe i should have since there wasn’t anything happening in the end that was able to change my mind about this novel.

in conclusion, i wouldn’t recommend this if you’re a character driven reader like me who really needs to empathize and identify with the characters they read about, because unless you’re a crazy rich singaporean, you won’t. in that case, it might be better to just watch the movie if you’re interested.
