Loved it for all the food descriptions! Loved learning about opulent Singaporean culture, but didn't like the footnotes coming at the end of the chapter on the Kindle edition. It felt like a Korean drama in written format, which made it an entertaining and quick summer read!

IDGAF about brands and status symbols so this book was hella boring to me in that regard. I skipped every single flashback because it was all I could do to make it through the current plot lines. I kept going only for the insight into the various Chinese cultures. Honestly, if it was half as long it would have been a much better book.

Read this book if you like a challenge. The challenge? Keeping up with 7281649 different perspectives and people. I would’ve happily rated this book higher if it was just made of Micheal/Astrid and Nicholas/Rachel.
