Lezend over hoe Linus Baker met de trein richting Marsyas Island Orphanage reed, terwijl ik zelf ook in de trein zat heeft het gevoel bij dit boek erg versterkt. Dit was precies wat ik deze zomer nodig had en ik ga niet liegen, ik heb zeker een traantje weggepinkt richting het einde van het boek.

The House in the Cerulean Sea vaak voorbij zien komen op het internet en telkens dacht ik dat het niet zo goed zou kunnen zijn. De voorkant en de synopsis kwamen namelijk nogal 'childish' op me over. And boy, did this book prove me wrong.

Personages die onwijs goed zijn neergezet, achtergrondverhalen die echt iets toevoegen en telkens op de juiste momenten werd er meer vrijgegeven over wie wie is en wat voor een rol ze spelen in het verhaal. Ondanks dat ik af en toe pijn voelde voor de personages vind ik het ook wel echt een feel-good verhaal. Althans, zo heb ik het ervaren. T.J. Klune ga ik zeker nog meer van lezen

i rated this a 5/5 the first time i read it (in 2021), and in a lot of ways it really held up!! Would give it a 4.5/5 now because some of the monologues seemed a little in-your-face too obvious but i can forgive that :)
