The 80/20 Principle, Expanded and Updated: The Secret to Achieving More with Less by Richard Koch

I read most of this book around 2004 or 2005 I think. I just picked it up and finished it off. It has some good insights, particularly in the first 3/4 of the book. I wasn't necessarily reading it for "business" but life/church advice. It's a simple concept that can be easily summed up, so I recommend "panning for gold" on this one.

This book was an interesting read. When push-comes-to-shove, it's a pretty straight forward and basic concept. 80% of your "insert positive thing here" comes from 20% of your "insert potential source here." The principle is malleable and can be applied to work effort, client relationships, financial investments, etc.
That's it. That's the whole concept.
The book does a good job of diving deeper into each application of the principle and even provides some case studies as to how this could apply in less business-centric ways to your life. It's definitely worth a quick read.
I honestly wish I would've read this book earlier because it would have served me quite well in my academic career.

This book was good - it covered a number of different areas in life that we can approach with 80/20 in mind. However, since the time of publishing, our understanding of willpower has changed from the view posited in this book (that it's a finite resource). It's now understood that willpower that, while our willpower does not deplete in the way previously thought, believing that it does makes it so. This is the same with stress, btw.

This was a really useful read. It is a great combination of important principles explored and introspective questions. My life will be better as I implement what I learned from this book.

I followed Quinn's advice and read chapters 9-11 and 13. (It saved me a lot of time)
Author's advice is to step back from our daily routine and introspect ourselves. The introspection will bring to surface the things that work out and those that don't. The 80/20 percent then applies by keeping the 20% of your activities that produce 80% results. This ranges from friends (20% of friends give you 80% happiness) achievement (20% of your time you produce 80% of results) happiness (the 20% of the moments that have produced 80 percent pleasure) and the list goes on. After these are spotted he suggests to focus your energy around that 20% to get most (80%) out of life.
I liked this book and even though I read 4 chapters and got most of it, I've found a lot of clutter that could be omitted. I recommend reading it following Quinn's advice to avoid even more clutter.
