With each book, I feel more strongly that this is a fascinating premise for a series. There is so much history in each of these books that I feel like I'm learning a lot, but I'm not being too bogged down by it. Dak, Sera, and Riq are still great characters for this type of story. They each have such strengths and weaknesses that they are completely relatable. I liked that they started working together better in this book. In the last book, they were too disjointed for me. Part of their strength comes from working together.
I've had my ups and downs with the series (seriously, "for the love of mincemeat" is not a thing, and is not going to be a thing if I have anything to do with it), but this volume I found more involving than the others. Maybe because it had something to do with saving a library, an action I find most worthy, or perhaps because it reminded me of the saving of the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. In any case, Dak, Sera and Riq are starting to grow on me, and so long as this series doesn't completely wear out its welcome, I'll be looking forward to what's coming next.
A transliteracy time travel adventure linked to online games. This book takes place in Baghdad where Riq, Sera and Dak must save books housed in the house of Wisdom library (written by Aristotle)in order to fix the break in time. They travel with the Mongols, end up imprisoned often facing the SQ as they proceed on the quest to save the future.

I gotta admit, I'm getting really tired of the pre-teen attitudes. I'm curious where the story is going but I'm getting a little sick of these kids. Bah.
While this was a good installment of the series, I wouldn't call it a great one. Even listening I finished the others within a couple of days, slower than I could read them on my own, but still interested enough in the audiobook to keep returning to hear more. With this one I wasn't gripped enough to keep coming back to listen each night and it took me quite a while to listen to it all.
I mean it had a lot of interesting history, much that I wasn't all that familiar with myself so that was a bonus, but parts were farfetched such as a scene where the group is chased by a tiger. And I didn't really care for the character dynamics. The previous books worked toward forging a real connection between Riq and the other two members of their trio and it worked because Sera and Dak weren't on the same page as often as they'd been before all this started. In this book it's Riq on his own again while Sera and Dak repair their friendship so I think that was part of what bothered me. With everything Riq has sacrificed for this mission I want him to be a solid member of the group and I just didn't see that here.
Like I said before it's a good installment, it just wasn't one of my favorites.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series! One thing that really struck me this time is what a great job the various authors have done in keeping the characters consistent. Can't wait for the next read!
