I'm just going to DNF this one at 28%.
I just cannot get behind one of the MMCs, Ash, making out with the FMC while he's twenty-six and SHE'S SIXTEEN AND KNOWS SHE IS UNDER AGE.
That gave me the ick, then to keep reading and learn they reconnect ten years later and he confesses that he printed all the lustful emails she sent him (while she was 16 & 17 and he just left her on read) and would masturbate to them...... I cant. & YOU EXPECT ME TO ROOT FOR HIM AS THE LOVE INTREST?? No ma'am.
I was going to keep hate reading to give a full breakdown of the book once I was done, but I cant even do that. I'm listening to the audio bc Teddy Hamilton and Rex Rhys, but I don't want to start having an automatic ick response associated to the narrator that is Ash, and that is what is starting to happen.
Some other issues I had:
- the dialogue was so bizarre
- He's a terrible dom, if you can even call him that. They reunite and immediately he jumps into "this is what I'm into & you should know that". What happened to "Hello? My name is..?"
And then makes his name her safe word..... bsffr.
- In a scene he tells her, "don't think about this as anything more than it is. I'm making you do this, you don't have a choice" that's not how dom/sub relationships work boo.
- The FMC would constantly talk about how she has self-confidence, but then be so shocked someone picked her/thought of her/remembered her. girl pls
Literally after their first hook up scene she says, "I'm not a woman of low self esteem, but how could I possibly be worthy of the love of a man like Ash?"
- The constant need for the author to describe things as "so male" or "so female". Paraphrased example: "he wrapped his strong arms around me, making me feel so incredibly female" His grunts & moans being "so very, very male".
- He's the president (red flag lmfao) and says I need you to trust me. & she says, "you're the president of the United States, if I can't trust you, I can't trust anybody" again, paraphrased, but i laughed my ass off at that.
I'm am closing the book on this one. I looked up some spoilers for what happens in the rest of the book, and no thank you. Honestly quite sad about it bc this was a highly anticipated read for me.

I can absolute see the hype and all those amazin 5* reviews.
But for me personally, its more a 3.5*
This book takes the instant love trope to another level. If its not your cup of tea don't touch this.
We are talking "met once 10 years ago, has been fapping to that memory and emails since then" and "lost her virginity to dude 5 years ago, hasnt had sex since then and been in love with him and the other dude (from 10 years ago)".
And personally I am not a fan of the constant jumping between present and past.
But the smut scenes are amazing. The chemistry between the three is just so good.
5* for smut.
2* for story.
