only really liked the essay about the trans woman in the psych ward. I want to read more from this woman!!!

But I'm not rating any lower because I believe this could be really beneficial for teens who feel alone with various mental disorders :) I am not the intended audience!!!

2018 Reading Challenge- Read a book with a form of punctuation in the title.

Very much a case as "not for me". I didn't click with a lot of the writing styles in this book and therefore didn't enjoy a lot of the pieces in this book. I found some really awesome pieces, ones I would love to revisit again and again in the future, so that's wonderful. But overall, I wasn't overly impressed by this. Perhaps I would have found this to be more inspiring as I was starting my journey with mental health issues, maybe my current mindset is a little too depressed/negative to appreciate the voices in this collection. Whatever the case may be, I found this to be an important collection that will most likely be a hit for a lot of readers but I was left feeling mostly meh.

Enlightening. I'm always down for learning about mental illnesses from the lips of those who have experienced them.
I didn't love all of the stories. A couple had originally been published in newspapers, and I could tell—they sounded like outlined essays. But some were very beautifully written—and I can't argue the validity of any of them.
I would reccomend this book to anyone who wishes to gain a better understanding of any or all of the mental illnesses. Just go in with an open perspective, and trigger warnings in mind.

I don't rate anthologies, but I got a lot out of book. I saw myself and my struggles in many of the stories.

This was another one of those books that I read and thought ‘yup, this one’s important.’ There is still so much stigma around mental illness, and I think people need to see how much mental illness can actually affect someone. I think a lot of young people will be able to relate to these stories, and hopefully this book will help them realize that they aren’t alone.

While some essays were fantastic and easy to get through, there were definitely ones in this collection that weren’t very well written, or were a slower read. That doesn’t make anyone’s story less important, and as a whole this book was a fantastic read.

"If I were to get another tattoo, a permanent reminder of why it is me and you and everyone else who keeps getting up and fighting, it'd be a simple, but powerful, line from that song: "We are giants."
- Kelly Jensen
(Don't) Call Me Crazy is a beautiful anthology of diverse voices coming together to talk about mental health. I used to think I was pretty well versed in the conversation surrounding mental illness, having experienced it myself, but there is still so much more to learn. Whether that be about trauma or the different aspects to a mental illness that I hadn't thought of before, it offers a wider perspective on the discussion around mental health. This book is difficult to read as well. The amount of vulnerability present in each and everyone of these stories takes courage and reading it can be difficult. But, there's also a sense of solace in connecting with so many people through their writing because they just get it. They understand how hard it can be to just get through the day, and how sometimes you reach a breaking point, and wonder if you can get up again. And to be able to connect to these stories and finally feel "seen" is an incredible feeling. Truly, truly a beautiful collection of stories.

Superb writing. The best essays I've read in this ilk of books this year. Topics are varied, too, so one can read about different aspects of mental illness not usually covered.
