The first few chapters as well as the last 2 were excellent but unfortunately the middle was extremely meandering. And although I appreciate the late stage capitalism critique, this is the world we live in and each and everyone has to navigate in somehow.

I will admit that until now, whenever I didn't like what I learned or found out about one of my favorite artists, and usually they were all writers, I would stop buying their books and get them at the library. It seemed like a choice that would allow me to have it bothways. For musicians, though, what to do? even though I love classical music inordinately, good or bad I had saved myself a lot of information. For art and museums, I always thought the “good” artists balanced the monsters and so amortized the cost of the ticket. Movies I see few or none. I know, I am always able to re-organize the information I have in my possession in the way that suits me best. This book, however, certainly gave me a lot to think about and little in the way of a solution, not least because, frankly, there are no solutions; so I took the opportunity to feel less alone.
Ammetto che fino ad ora, ogni qual volta non mi piaceva quello che venivo a sapere o scoprivo su uno dei miei artisti preferiti e di solito erano tutti scrittori, smettevo di comprare i loro libri e me li prendevo alla biblioteca. Mi sembrava una scelta che salvasse capra e cavoli. Per i musicisti peró che fare? anche se amando in modo smodato la musica classica, bene o male mi ero risparmiata un sacco di informazioni. Per l'arte ed i musei, ho sempre pensato che i "buoni" artisti bilanciassero i mostri e quindi ammortizzassero il costo del biglietto. Film ne vedo pochi o niente. Lo so, sono sempre in grado di ri-organizzare le informazioni in mio possesso nel modo in cui mi fa piú comodo. Questo libro peró sicuramente mi ha dato molto da pensare e poco nell'ottica di una soluzione, anche perché, sinceramente di soluzioni non ce ne sono; quindi ne ho approfittato per sentirmi meno sola.
