I love Michael Grant's writing and the Gone Series. I enjoy all the characters, but Astrid made me a little mad in this book. This is just my opinion since I don't know how others feel, but it wasn't fair of Astrid to do that to Sam, putting all this pressure on Sam. I mean, Sam was tired of being the one in charge and Astrid still made him? especially with using him to protect Little Pete. and when she knew that Sam wasn't all better from what Drake did to him, she still wanted him to be in charge and she got mad at him for keeping things when he was also trying not to cause panic with the other kids. I like Astrid in the other books, but in this one, she isn't my favorite right now. But when Sam is gone and no one knows where he is, she now finally understands how he felt, I hope this changes her mind and that she will go easier on him.

I had also forgotten how insane Zill got, I mean, burning down the town as he did? and not caring if any other kids died. I can understand how he would be scared of some kids who have powers but going through all that to get rid of them... even if they have powers, those kids are still human too. and I especially hated how Zill hurt hunter and how he tried to kill him and Astrid.

I did like how Quinn had stepped up to catch fish like he did so everyone could eat.
