I really enjoyed the Chinese folktales and art that were woven through the story of a young girl who seeks good fortune for her family. Appropriate for young children. Good read aloud book.
I listened to this book in the car with my kids. I love finding a children’s book with beautiful, descriptive writing. It was very uplifting with wonderful messages of friendship, bravery, selflessness, family, sacrifice and a little Chinese culture
Sweet children's adventure story based on Chinese fantasy. Not sure I loved the moral or the way the narrative treated the mother being worried and unhappy about poverty, but it was a very pretty book and the way the interconnected stories tied together was quite clever.

This is a children's story, but adults will appreciate its wisdom. I was reminded a little of The Alchemist -- except there's an Oriental flair instead of Bedouin, and Minli, the main character, was more likable (perhaps it's because she's seeking to better her family's fortune and not just her own?). It was fun to see how the stories -- which were inspired from actual Chinese folklore -- wove themselves together. And I really liked the many values and principles taught in this book, including gratitude, family, and selflessness.

A beautiful story following a young girl, Minli, who is convinced she is surrounded by bad fortune. After hearing so many lovely stories filled with hope and distraction from her father, she goes on a journey to get some good fortune to make her family happy.
I loved the stories that were woven in throughout this book. Each one was important to the story, and I loved how they wound up being interconnected. All of the characters met along the way brought me such great JOY and I loved seeing them represented in their home in the very end of the book.
My heart is so warm & so full. I loved this magical, beautiful, heartwarming little book so, so much. I’m crying as I type this lol.
