I reread this for the "read an old favorite" prompt. The parts about Elnora going to school and eating delicious lunches and winning over her mother hold up. For someone who reads a lot of romance, the romance plot was not as interesting to me.
Towards the end, it was hard to tell when they were on Mackinac Island and when they were in Mackinaw City, but it seemed like there were people driving cars on Mackinac Island. Come on, Gene Stratton-Porter!
Also, there was a lot of "of the time" racism against Native Americans, mostly squeezed in at the end.
