I really don't know why I put off reading this for as long as I did! It was delightful, one of the best romances I read featuring a non-binary characters. I liked the food focus, the use of social media in the plot and all the secondary characters. Simone and Ray have great chemistry and some good growth throughout the novel. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a funny, heart-warming queer romance!

Although please heed the content warnings as this book does involve transphobia as a core theme

I read this on the plane ride back home from my work trip and it was an absolute delight!

I adored the grumpy x sunshine dynamic between Simone and Ray — they were equally hilarious and awkward, which made it especially entertaining for me as a third-party removed from the fictional situation hahaha. Not only that, but the found family dynamics tugged at my heart. I am still giddy over them (the entire crew) all giving each other nicknames teeheeeee

While their love story is slow but steady, I also appreciated the commentary on how workplaces can be per formative and only focus on optics and how harmful that is! I was stressed for Ray but I want to assure you there is indeed a happy ending here!

I actually have the ARC of Chef’s Choice on NetGalley so I’m excited to dive into that one next hehe.

I only gave it 4 stars because I'm not a huge fan of reading queer fiction that isn't "anyone who is queer is established as such from the get go."

I hated that for the first 150 pages, the enby character was being misgendered by everyone bc they hadn't come out yet.

The romance was cute. Speaking as a nonbinary person, it was exhausting

listening to Simone whine about Ray's new pronouns--

I get it, it's realistic, I have heard it a million times about my own. Transphobia from the POV MC in a f/x romance really threw me out of it and just made me hate Simone. Also if you are going to very clearly base a book off the BA Test Kitchen and then only kiiiind of address the scandal but not resolve any of the issues called out in said scandal.... yeah. I wish the ended had been further draw out; I love a good slow burn but this didn't feel like it resolved itself satisfyingly. While this book did a good job of juggling all the plot lines, sometimes I think it could have done with one less. This being said, I think Ray is adorable and Luna is too good for Simone. The pining was delicious.

Hopeful, loving, sexy. I laughed and cried while listening to this while baking pies and bagels. It gets super heavy in the middle, and I would love a book from Ray’s point of view! If you’re up for something that will make you laugh, crush you, and then lift you back up completely, I highly recommend this!
