These two are so cute. This is also helping me learn about hearing disabilities, which is nice.

Disclaimer: I received a review copy for via NetGalley, and am voluntarily and happily sharing my honest thoughts. Many thanks to the publisher, Kodansha, for the opportunity!

This was a very charming and sweet first volume! I love that from the get-go, you can get a sense of how Kanon and Saki's dynamics might grow, even from their first run-in to when they are officially introduced to each other in class. It's quickly established how both Kanon and Saki have their individual hangups on why it's harder for them to connect with people, yet they still find some sort of comfort in each other's company -- especially with Saki's persistance. It's a very sweet dynamic that also feels extremely natural in the tone of the writing.

I really love how Kanon's deafness is handled here, that it shows that there can be the harshness from others with bullies and people who are fed up with having to deal with her, while also showing the curiosity from Saki's side and other classmates. It's just extremely charming when Saki connects with her over piano and books as well, and I love when she really makes an effort defend Kanon and tries to learn how she should accomodate and be helpful in how she communicates. The art style really adds to the fluffy vibes and I love how even here alone, we can see Kanon softening up around Saki, and Saki growing confident as well. I'd definitely be interested in seeing how things develop in the next volume!

there's a reason i don't pick up high school yuri anymore. the tropes involved really haven't advanced since i was reading it over a decade ago and now that i'm 30 i really just don't have the patience. i made an exception for this one because of the HoH character - I was interested to see how deafness was dealt with and if it was handled well. for the most part, i think it was fine. i don't have the same hangups with this one as i do with A Sign of Affection. it's everything else that doesnt work for me.

i really dislike the art style - the type of overly-glossy lips and extreme blush-y faces that have gotten popular in recent years are a huge turnoff for me. the manga has already set up a lot of sexual tension way too quickly (one of the things i dislike in high school yuri in general) and the characters aren't that interesting. it's obvious that saki is gay and having a hard time coping with heteronormativity, and i wish that had been explored a little more instead of simply hinted at in this volume. kanon obviously has more going on since she is the hard of hearing character but the manga takes care to show her personality and interests outside of her disability which is appreciated. unfortunately a lot of her character looks like its going to be otaku-based, and i was already getting annoyed with the few discussions that popped up because of it.

ultimately i'm glad i gave this a chance, but i will not be continuing with the series. if the art style was even a little more bearable for me i might be able to do it, or if i hadn't burned myself out on this style of yuri a decade ago, but as it is this just isn't my thing.

what a lovely manga that focuses on a hard-of-hearing girl, Kanon, and a piano student, Saki. they are both in the same class at school and although at first Kanon is not fond of any of her classmates she starts to be friends with Saki.

we get to see a very lovely and realistic friendship between two teenage girls and hopefully, in future volumes, we will get to see how they are figuring out their friendship/relationship together.

can't wait for another volume!
