Definitely graphic and disturbing. A parents worst nightmare. A wife’s worse nightmare. But the writing is just so good, you can feel the emotions jumping off the page.

Brilliant writing and I would definitely read something else by Slaughter. This book turned into graphic torture porn and I just couldn’t keep going

Nice suspense in this one. Started off a bit slow but it picked up at the end. These characters were pretty well fleshed out and there were some tough stops to get through but it was definitely a page turner towards the end.

A gripping read, as dark as they come but not a lot to be found past the pure shock factor.

Certain parts of this book were so hard for me to read. I think this is why I like to stick with Fantasy for the most part because when there’s some magical/mystical element… It’s all make-believe. With this story, even though it is fiction, there’s that element of “but it could happen.”

Somehow this book both dragged on and delivered twisty plot lines that kept me engaged. I’m happy for the ending Lydia and Claire got but I would have loved to have seen more of a showdown between Claire and Paul in the end.

My biggest question though, and honestly, the biggest plot hole, is why did Paul and his father do this at all? It’s easy to chop it up and just say oh he’s a psychopath but what led to such sadistic behavior? I wish the book would’ve leaned into that a little bit more.
