4⭐️ this was a very dark and disturbing story and every woman/ parents worst nightmare. The twists and turns keel you guessing throughout, those sisters had so much pain and manipulation going on in their lives 😭

i think the fact it took me a year and 2 weeks to finish this book definitely numbed the genuine depravity of what i was reading cuz damn this book gets dark. but i enjoyed this a lot more than the last karin slaughter i read. someone rly needs to get this author some therapy though cuz wtaf trigger warnings cannot prepare u near enough. i might have acc found my limit this time.

A very intense book. Definitely a fast-paced book that causes your heart rate to increase. Some scenes were too graphic and I had to take a break. Lots of triggers to be aware of before picking up the book.

I picked this one up on audiobook after seeing its high rating and decided to commit to the 20-hour journey. Saying I liked it feels wrong because enjoying this book says something about the darkness you are willing to face. I had never read anything by Karin Slaughter before and I can tell you this was probably not the one to start with. The subject matter is crushingly dark and heavy and it spares no one.
Slaughter has a way of describing crime with a precision that is almost unbearable. You feel like you are walking through the scene yourself, heart hammering, imagining the worst. The story follows a missing sister from the past and a missing girl in the present while uncovering decades of secrets and unspeakable family pain. Through the father’s journals you experience grief so raw and haunting it lingers long after the last page. This book is not just a story about murder it is a deep, gut-wrenching exploration of loss, obsession, and the destruction hidden inside a family.
