This book was very intense, and the story line wasn't that predictable which I enjoyed. I didn't get "murder porn" vibes from the book at all. The writing was precise and descriptive but not over the top. Slaughter did an awesome job with it.
This is my first Karin Slaughter book, and she did not disappoint.
I loved the sister dynamics. As someone who generally doesn't like one of her sisters, she really captured the <i>"I don't have to like you or talk to you for years, but I'll come to help you if you ask. Even if every bone in my body tells me not to"</i> sister dynamic. Didn't give me gooey sister vibes, which is SO annoying in books. Thanks for writing what it's actually like to have two bitches forced to grow up together.
The only reason it wasn't five stars is because I think it was too long, but other than that not many complaints.

3.5 stars.
I think the hype of this book and Karin Slaughter in general was the downfall of this book. It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't the unpredictable twisty thriller I was expecting. I couldn't really empathize with the main characters, because it was the predictable horror movie scenario of "don't go into the house, idiot!" There definitely was a lot of gore and very descriptive of the terrible things.

This was a good book and enjoyable read. I was interested and invested in the ending.
This book follows the perspective of Clair and Lydia sisters to the missing Julia. The book felt slow for a majority of it and not as exciting as I was hoping. I honestly feel like the ending was just too happy for such a "serious" and intense crimes being comitted. However, the book itself is well written and flows well even in the slow parts.

This book was really compelling and well-written but for me personally the graphic sexual violence was too much. Descriptions so detailed. In future I will stick with cozy mysteries!
