It was fine. A little strange when you think about how neither the game nor the translation software belongs to the author, and ultimately the software was a snapshot frozen in time that makes this book kinda ultimately meaningless. I haven't learned anything from it... But I guess it was entertaining.

Really fascinating; I wish Mandelin went into the nitty gritty of his models a little bit more (as a DH scholar) but that's just me. The translation jokes got a bit tired after several pages of them, but the talk about the history of localizations and machine translations was good.

i love love love machine translation and theory so i was gifted this book- it’s great and i think the execution is interesting, but i must say i’m not the intended audience. if you’re in it for the machine learning, its not going to satisfy you. if you’re studying the japanese language and its theory, then this is for you. i unfortunately do not speak japanese so while some bits were funny, most of it i didn’t care for one way or the other
