I really hated their families, which I guess is the point. It’s obviously a story about friendship and choosing your own family, but wow some of these characters were so easy to hate! Overall, really interesting book - I couldn’t put it down!

This whole book feels like a bad fever dream and I don’t know how else to explain it

TW: domestic abuse, parental abuse, drugs, murder, gambling, violence, mentions of prostitution and pornography, multiple accounts of theft

A story of two girls on a road trip of revenge and closure. I couldn't put it down after the part where they reached King Midas Casino. Okay, so basically our MCs, Lucille and Winona, are on the run from their families - Lucille's run off with her drug dealer brother's stash to get back at him for stealing her money she's worked so hard for, and Winona's escaping her abusive weatherman dad and looking for her mother in Vegas (? if i'm not wrong).

I never thought I'd like Lucille and Winona but I did! They're so badass, witty, brave, and absolutely just killing it there. Oh, and their friendship is just *chef kiss* Literally everything that could go wrong DID go wrong, but I enjoyed reading how they both clawed their way out. There was a hint (note: HINT) of romance between them, but it wasn't followed through and that made me a tiny bit sad. Also, it was a little confusing when Lucille and Winona were kinda like,,, 'swapping' personalities?? Like one moment, Lucille would sound and act and think like Winona and vice versa, so that was hard to keep track of.

There were some parts that were hard to read, like the whole thing with Silas (
and also his idea of luring pedophiles to their hotel room to drug them (the pedos) and take all their money
), the huge thing near the end of the book (their Big Plan; i was BRACING MYSELF), and of course, the domestic abuse both MCs have experienced.

I'm still reeling from the ending - which I won't spoil, but it's kinda predictable anyways - and yeah, totally giving this a reread :)

This book was a wild ride from start to finish, and I was unbelievably anxious at times. Haha. These two girls….it’s unbelievable what happens to them and how they come out on the other side. It’s inspiring and heartfelt and I just want these two to find their found family someday.

Hello Girls

This was the story of two girls with really bad home lives trying to escape and leave it behind them.

This book was bizarre, but it kind of worked? Starting with the negatives: the plot was a little unstructured, the characters were somewhat inconsistent, and the tone and pace of the book seemed to change a lot. However at the same time, it was telling a fascinating story, and you really couldn't help but root for the characters even though the crazy things they were doing.

PG-13 for abuse, murder, drugs, all sorts of random things
