Once again this had the same beautiful writing as it's companion story, The Domain of Arnheim. I feel like, same as the first story, it ended rather abruptly. Still enjoyable

Having just finished watching The Pale Blue Eye, I was curious if Mr Poe knew an Augustus Landor. I saw this novella mentioned. This is a lovely departure from his most famous works. There is no plot & characters are mentioned fleetingly but the scenery is painted so clearly in words I was ready to check a booking agency to see if I could vacation there. In the words of Liz Lemon in 30 Rock, “I want to go to there.”

Landor’s Cottage and The Domain of Arnheim go hand-in-hand, with both being descriptive pieces that show Poe’s ability to bring the world to life but fail to show his ability to fill the reader with unease. It is a story that I would recommend avoiding if you disliked The Domain of Arnheim but is worth it if you were a fan of the story.
All in all, this wasn’t for me, but I can understand why it works for many.
