I became more interested in the b-plot than the main story, honestly, even though it was a less interesting version of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Also felt insta-lovey in a way that was unbelievable. The events in the epilogue also frankly came out of nowhere.

emily henry i expected a bit more from you with this after waiting 5 months for my hold from the library to come in im not gonna lie!!!

came for the typical feet kicking romance & lovable characters i’ve come to love w her books, left with left with an admittedly sweet but poorly paced romance (and absolutely ZEROOO pining!! where is the pining emily!!!) and a mystery plot tied to the family of an old-money heiress that made me feel wish I was reading the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo instead.

one of my favorite things about emily henry books is how the characters feel like real people and she’s just writing down their stories. that they’re realistic and make realistic decisions and feel real enough for them to be lovable to a reader…. the characters in this book were none of those things :( normally she even nails a few wonderful supporting characters too and in this one they all felt pretty 2 dimensional, which was too bad.

it was a quick read and her writing style/voice is still super impressive to me but I can’t help but wonder if the pace at which she’s been pumping out books is starting to affect the quality— this one could’ve used a bit more time in the oven. really wish that it could’ve focused a little less on margaret’s history & more on the romance between the 2 journalists

DID NOT FINISH

MMC is a fkn asshole. DNF after being introduced to him because he's an insufferable twat from the get-go. There can be no redemption arc for a guy who is wildly unpleasant and rude as all get out to random strangers. This is not a man you want to fix, sis.
