I already need to go back and re-read it! Rohr describes the 12 Steps as a technology for the sort of deep transformational work described by theologians from many world religions, although his primary focus is the Christian scriptures. Since he is a Franciscan, his take is really groovy and inclusive, though, so it is inspiring even of you're not a Christian.

I read this book a second time in conjunction with a course given by Richard Rohr. The 12 Steps really are applicable to more than what we normally think of as addicts/alcoholics. One key point is how we can all be addicted to our way of thinking and we can't get out of it by thinking our way out. Through the course I found that this book is of interest to many folks who are in a 12-Step program just as it was for me who is not.
