Ellen Hopkins never disappoints, truly one of the best YA authors in this lifetime. Tilt, a companion to her book Triangles, did a great job of continuing the story but presenting it from the children's point of view from the book Triangles. I didn't know this before reading and was surprised, but it made more sense to continue the story because it literally had a little bit of everything.. addiction, teenage pregnancy, rape, chronic illness, family relationships.. just to name a few. She has such a way with words and I love every book I read by her more than the last!

Another heartbreaking, hard to read dose of real life from Ellen Hopkins. Her books take a ridiculous amount of time for me to get through, but I don't care. Her characters are amazing, and her books are the only "real life" fiction I've ever really liked. This one wasn't my favorite, but it was still really good.

I think I need to stop. Seriously. WHY DO THESE AUTHORS KEEP DESTROYING MY EMOTIONS I CANT

okay so I have made it a personal goal to read everything Hopkins has written because her books are literally my favorite thing ever

I mean I love verse like nobody's business so I've seen a lot of it but to HELL if Hopkins isn't the best of the best, the creme de la creme if you will.

LOVE. IT. Will be back for more.

3.75 ⭐️This is my first Ellen Hopkins book, and wow. The characters were so real to me, as were their circumstances and struggles. Sexuality, HIV, teen pregnancy, suicide, and growing up. They are the unpleasant, dirty things that not a lot of people talk about. But Ellen Hopkins did talk about it, and she did a damn good job.

Alex was such a loveable character, and his relationship with Shane was beautiful. I had an emotional connection with Harley, especially. She reminded me of myself at 13-15, which wasn’t a good time. Her going into high school and trying to discover herself, be someone she’s not, do things she’s not ready to do.

I love the free verse style of writing, and Ellen Hopkin’s writing in general is great. It’s to the point but it’s also lyrical. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

I needed this to be longer!! I felt that Mikayla and Shane’s stories were done well and because their situations were needed to be dealt with by time and growth, that couldn’t be written on a page. However, I needed to know that Harley told what was heavy on her heart in the end. Writing about such a topic and a situation in which the victim stays quiet is heartbreaking. Wish Hopkins would’ve explored Harley’s story further.

This book is about three teens who are holding tight to the last vestiges of their childhood. Mikayla is sure she's found the love of her life in Dylan. But by the end of her senior year, things have become increasingly complicated. Shane is out and proud but can he keep his life under control in the face of the ultimate loss? Harley is a good girl with a not so great home life. She wants to have new experiences but doesn't expect for the outcome to be so horrific.

If you have ever read any of Ellen Hopkins' other books then you know what you're in for. But if you haven't just know that this book will rip your heart out in seven different ways. There are no happy endings and no nice clean wrap up at the end of the book. The book just ends (after 603 pages). For me, these books have always shown what life can be like and how the choices that you make can affect the rest of your life. They always come with a good lesson buried inside them but you will have to read a lot of sad and sometimes enraging stuff to get to it. If you are fan of realistic fiction then I think this book would be a good choice for you.

4.5 stars- I wish half ratings were available. I really liked this book, but I wish it were a little longer. I know that there is always a possibility of a sequel with Hopkins but I want more now, not later. I also am very interested in seeing the POV of the adults in this novel, I've been meaning to read Triangles since it came out, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It has definitely moved to the top of my list!

this author always has the same 3 tropes: a gay kid, a pregnant girl, and shitty family life.

but i read every book every time.

i didn’t know this was book #2 in a series but that’s okay bc i don’t think they’re super intertwined
