I didn’t expect much from this book, probably because I’m used to reading a lot of fluff for entertainment. This wasn’t that. I knew it was going to be about winning a crotchety old man over, which sounded fun. But it’s also super witty, funny, and pretty sad at times. It’s probably been called “poignant” by some reviewers, but I think I’m too unliterary to get away with that.
About a quarter of the way through (after forgetting what the book title was called) I was reflecting on how many of the characters seem so lonely.
The main character, Sloane, can get pretty annoying at times with how she has such a low view of herself (and doesn’t realize it)… she’s always shrinking away and letting people get what they want—and seems fine with it. Thankfully, the story is partly about how she moves out of that.
There were definitely tears by the end. It’s likely going to be on the list of one of my fav books.

A very enjoyable read. Loneliness has so many voices and you find some of them in this book! I enjoyed the characters and how they come to terms with their loneliness and heal themselves.

A nice breath of fresh air after bingeing ACOTAR & the Empyrean series.
I loved the voices of different characters and old grumpy men have a soft spot in my heart. The books. The friendships. It was just a nice, feel good story.

I really like the characters and the story of this book and how the author showed that sometimes friends can be more supportive, accepting and loving than family.

This was such a feel-good read! The characters envelope you in their backgrounds and bring you such joy when you get to see them prosper. I hung onto every word up until the very end. I absolutely love this book and would love to see it adapted for TV or a movie one day.
