The story is very convoluted
It is really taking a long time for whatever Dantes, a.k.a. Simbad le marin, a.k.a. Le comte de Monte-Cristo to get to the point of all his shenanigans and get his vengeance done already!

This started and ended very strong, but I thought it meandered in the middle. Also, I didn't expect it to feel so long. You really need a chart of characters in order to keep track of everyone. Thankfully, Wikipedia has a chart on characters and their relations. Overall, prepare for a long book that is much more about relationships, revenge, forgiveness and redemption.
