This book ended on a better note. I spent the majority of this book not liking (or connecting with) any of the characters.

I did enjoy the premise of this book, though.  I don't think we got enough of the second iteration of the universe.

This was ok. The story changes tone in the middle which lessened my enjoyment of the story. The rest of it read a bit YA which was a surprise from the honestly bleak and rage inducing world and main character we are introduced in the first half of the book.
I was interested to follow Kyr's story and how she would break free from the indoctrination and the cult she grew up in. How she would discover a whole new world of possibilities. Instead, the story does a reality change and we're focusing on rewriting history.

The story sounds interesting but I just had a hard time connecting to the characters. There were moments where I was really confused on where the characters were in relation to the rest of the space station.

Great book, would recommend even to non sci-fi fans.

At time of reading this might be my favourite book I’ve read this year (tied with This Is How You Lose the Time War)

Seeing how radicalised Kyr was, and how intentionally blind to things going on around her at the beginning and then seeing where she ended up was very moving

Time travel, aliens, asi, vr and action, while at the same time unpacking racist, sexist and speciesist attitudes. And there’s queer representation, and we overthrow a fascist regime? I think I literally couldn’t have asked for anything more from a book

It’s rare that a book like this takes me by surprise but there were several things that I didn’t see coming plot-wise. That being said, I found the main character unlikable and want to give a TW because the level of homophobia from the main character and surrounding characters is uncomfortable.
