Listened to only a bit of this and decided not to finish. I just don't like Maisie! Cold-hearted, selfish, arrogant.....Maybe it's the narrator on the audio books but Maisie comes off as very unpleasant. Guess I'm finished with this series.

4.5 / probably one of my favorite Maisie Dobbs novels yet.

Quite entertaining but could have been a bit tighter. A nice light read.

Maisie continues her healing process while attempting to rescue an inventor from the Nazis just as they are making their move on Austria.
I enjoyed being back in Maisie's world, although much of the story was devoted to bringing readers up to date and seemed repetitive. I say, let the readers fend for themselves and read the previous volumes. The space would be better filled with Maisie having more adventures.

I wavered on what to give this... As always the writing was engaging and it was a quick read, but I miss Maisie's office and her friends in England. This felt... off brand or like a side quest. Hoping the events of the epilogue mean we are headed back to regularly scheduled programming with the next book.

Typical Maisie Dobbs story, which is good but predictable. I read it for the setting bc I’m going on a trip to Munich soon.

Audiobook: 09hr 18m

The tension that runs through the plot of this novel is palpable as a reader. It's fascinating to watch, almost in slow motion, as history unfolds for these characters. In the same breath, it's hard watching "people" you care about prepare for a tragedy they can only too accurately forecast and fear. Every good piece of fiction is a lesson in empathy, and this is no exception. Infamous cameos were handled with care -- I hope that continues as the weeds of war weave around the ankles of Ms Maisie Dobbs.
