It took me a hot min to get back into this world because I definitely should have reread Sword Catcher, but once I got back into the world and characters (about 25% of the way in) I enjoyed myself a lot. No one does complex character relationships and *yearning* like Cassandra Clare and I love her for it. I also really liked the new characters specifically Anjelica and Aron, as well as all the new worldbuilding/ additions to the magic system. The last 100 pages or so were a wild ride and so well done!

I'm proud to say I realized the Antonetta is Prosper Beck and Ragpicker King is Asher reveals before they were officially confirmed in the text but also I think it was exactly when Cassie intends for the reader to realize it.

I'm so excited to see where the next book takes these characters cause both Kel and Lin will be on completely new journey.

Awesome book. If you know Cassandra Clare from the Shadowhunters series, and are hesitant for that reason, don't be - this book is more mature and less teen fictiony than her other work. This book reminds me of the Great Coats or Gentleman Bastards series - very quickly paced with some awesome character development. Worth every page.

This is a fantastic romantic  fantasy with actual longing, and no insta-love. I love that, while it does have romance, there is truly a larger story to tell. I also appreciate that the story is about more than romantic relationships. There are friendship and family dynamics that are just as important and gripping as the romances. I ended up enjoying this book even more than the first.
