I'm blown away. I thought this would be a 4 star as it was slow in the beginning but I mean wow... it kept getting better and better.

The story and the world is still growing me.  I guess after reading RF Kwang the worldbuilding feels so very western european typical.  But Cassandra Clare does a really great job at building out the characters and a story line that can arc in many directions.  I like this jump into New Adult/Adult from the Young adult world of the Shadowhunters.  Although, I really felt that series matured as it went on... it felt full on fantasy at then end in its various incarnations.

I would say that this second book is where the intrigue of the world builds.  We have now been introduced to all the characters, and the various interactions and sadly we are now going to have to wait a year to see where it all takes us.   I will definitely be reading the next one.

While not earth shattering, it is a story well told and I want more!

I found it SO frustrating how little Conor and kel spoke to each other - I feel like their relationship should be the backbone of the series but it feels like we’re told more than shown it.

I also find kel quite an annoying character - so arrogant and stupid. I guess that’s how the book ends up the way it does + I liked the ending so hopefully it’s all character development for him. His relationship with antonetta also feels very forced.

I KNEW Antonetta would be revealed as that character and thank GOD because she was such a Mary Sue. Excited to see where that leads. And delighted by the twist that Conor is plotting and being clever, rather than being led astray. Drama!

Love that she’s ended this book like a gathering of shadows - kel surprised + locked up by the royal family. Wonder how the next book will be similar to a conjuring  of light lol.

All this to say, I love love love the worldbuilding and the relationships and characters etc.
