The best parts were in the last 20% of the book. She aged up the plot a little bit and added in spicy scenes (nbd but more of a content warning bc that was not the case with book 1)

This one hurts to write, because Cassandra Clare is one of my favourite authors and I absolutely loved Sword Catcher. I had really high hopes for The Ragpicker King, but unfortunately, it just didn’t land for me.

The plot had potential, but emotionally, I felt pretty disconnected the whole time. The romances in particular left me cold. They felt rushed or just not convincing, and I never got invested in any of the relationships. That spark, that intensity she usually writes so well, just wasn’t there.

It’s not a bad book, but it felt like something was missing. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I walked away feeling disappointed and a little let down. I know Clare can deliver so much more, which makes this all the more frustrating.

This series is everything I love about Fantasy, we have court intrigue, hidden identities, erased magic , familial secrets, found family and so much more! 

The last 100 pages of this one were pure chaos with reveal after reveal! One was a little predictable but still done in such a satisfying way. 

As always, Cassandra Clare is the queen of longing and angst and she had me eating up each and every crumb of romance throughout the narrative. She never misses! 

Cannot wait to see how this series progresses
