I loved this book. It's actually hard to explain cause in some ways it was cozy... but it was also, ya know, murdery. It was cute and fun... but it was also dark. It was kind of young... and yet not exactly a children's book. I wouldn't have any idea how to market this (good thing that's not my job lol)

It had some great humor in it, while also some sad stuff (again, murdery). It also was a bit thought provoking. It's truly a reluctant hero tale, but, as the book points out, aren't all heroes reluctant? It really made me think about heroes a lot in a different light than we tend to.

I also think the voice of the fmc was done SO WELL. She actually sounded and acted and thought like a fourteen year old! It reminded me of the way I once thought of adults, and it's always interesting to look at adults through a child's eyes because, being an adult, we know it's actually not entirely accurate. It's essentially like "You're an adult so you know EXACTLY what to do" while you're like "OMG I'm the adult but idk what the heck to do!" And by the end? She still had a fourteen-year-old's understanding of adults. As she should!

I also loved the messaging she's being taught. Even in weakness, there is power. Creativity is just as important as knowledge. She learned to push aside her self-doubt and just do what needed to be done to the best of her ability. I have faith she grew up to learn the value of her "little, weak magic" and became quite the wizard!!

All in all, such a great book and very well written. I loved it!

SO, it's been a while. I took a break from books, totally impromptu, but here's why.

This book was amazing! It was so good, that when I finished it, I felt like no other book was going to live up to what this one did. I've only gotten that with one other book - Project Hail Mary - and that is still my modern all-time fave. I didn't even want to bother with coming here to review it. It's been close to 3 months since I finished it but here I am now like a dope.

A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking is magical on so many levels. Sure, I may be hyping it up and being bias because I love fantasy and I spent years working in the kitchen, but don't let that deter you from listening to me here! There's so much character, so much world building, and funny moments, and memorable things that happened, it was honestly hard to not fall in love with it all. I listened to the audiobook and highly recommend it, the narrator was fantastic.

If you have any sort of background or admiration to baking, and are partial to stories of wizards and magic, oooooooooooo get ready because you're going to adore this one.

i absolutely ADORED this book! it was a pure delight❤️ shooting up the ranks to one of my favorite T. Kingfishers

the premise? perfection.
the magic system? perfection.
the conflict? perfection.
the characters? perfection.
the humor-- okay, well you get it.

i could read a million more books in this world because I loved how the magic works! Mona is such a delightful character. around the 50% mark, I did kinda feel like things were dragging because the conflict if very on-again, off-again, but the second half sealed the deal for me

i would definitely reread this one, so FUN
