Re read 07/2020. Lol at my earlier review, I now think vol 5 is my favorite so far in the series.

I wasn't sure where the story was going after the end of vol. 4. I'm interested in 'The Great Darkness', but otherwise I feel like not much happened in this volume.

Overall, volumes 1,2 & 4 are still my favorites in the series.

Definitely one of the best in the series.
The first issue's magazine format really gives it a unique touch. And it got me thinking that the creators should really aim to write some sort of prose book in the series; the narrative was excellent.
Then we go back to the original graphic novel format and find ourselves with the aftermath of the last tragic event.
Our gods are trying to search for meaning given they are now living their last year. Will they really die? Or will they not?
Some gods get more attention, like Persephone; and I love what they are doing with her. Same with the Nords and Amaterasu with her "shin-two". 😂
This volume had a good balance of fast moving and slow paced scenes that had me reading all the time.
But right up until the last issue, Wic Div did what it does best, and that is confusing the storyline. The characters get a little tangled up and the scenes seem a little too over the place. Nonetheless that last two pages change a lot and give you something to hold on to until the next volume, Imperial Phase Part 2.
#TheDestroyer ;)

The 2021 Goodreads Goal Cram: 3/9

The first issue in this one (the magazine) is brilliant. The kind of creativity that sets this work apart.

This series is a big fan of hiding character motivation to create suspense in the plot and it has the side effect of making all the characters kind of… vague? Underdeveloped mayhaps. Like I have very little understanding of what motivates the person who I would label as the main character.

But! It kind of goes back to the high expectations of the reader maybe? Anywho, onto the next.
