First book in The Five Syndicates series was not what I expected
1 ⭐️
I like the author, but this book started to frustrate me within the first three chapters. Sometimes, you just have that feeling when a book isn't a good fit for you. I believe this is the author's debut novel, and it was published six years ago, so the quality may not be up to par.
The main characters annoyed me, and I didn't need to read the whole book to know that I wouldn't adore them.

Good book!
I liked the book. Asher is the ultimate alpha. Loved how Lucy falls into Asher’s life. Their chemistry is off the charts. I am shocked she lasted as long as she did. Good book!

Hmmm... how do I put into words how I feel about this book? Cause I’m really unsure as of right now. The thing is, I enjoyed it. Which of course is the most important part with reading for me. But then again, I had some problems with it. It’s definitely a dark romance read. I enjoyed the buildup in the relationship and I enjoyed the steam. I LOVED the nerdy references in the book (I swear that’s my fave thing ever) and there were a lot of funny parts! But I felt that I was at odds with the relationship in the book? I didn’t agree with some of the decisions and all- but that’s just me personally. It is as a good read for people that enjoy dark romances with morally grey/villainous male love interests for sure!
I did enjoy the author’s writing a lot!

2.5 stars
It wasn't badly written and it was entertaining enough. The pacing was off for me, and the characters were inconsistent and a tad bit to immature for my liking. Probably won't continue the series.

A good introduction to the series. I love a good billionaire romance, and this one had some light mafia sprinkled in to keep the plot interesting. I loved Lucy & Asher together.
This would have been great as dual POV, I think it would have made their relationship more rounded.
A plus - no breakup around the 75% mark, no unnecessary misunderstandings
A minus - it was mentioned a few times that she didn’t put on makeup or if she did it was only lightly; the persistent remainder of this made it seem like it would be wrong to put on makeup - women are beautiful with or without makeup

Parker is the Queen of slow burn
I laughed and I got so frustrated reading this book and yet I couldn’t put it down. I kept thinking and wishing Parker wrote from Asher’s perspective just to know what was going through his head. This was a quick read, I didn’t love it as much as I did the last two books I’ve read from this author but I will definitely read more.

This is really a 4 1/2 star book. There's something about Asher and Lucy that you can't help but fall in love with. Lucy is the perfect mate for Asher, and we see it early on in the story. However, their chemistry, in my opinion, doesn't boil off the page. I would have liked Asher's POV to build that chemistry. It's clear that he's interested in her, but in this story, when they finally consummate their feelings, it feels a bit underwhelming. That being said, I couldn't put this book down because I needed to see them through to their happy ending. There is so much to love about the tech and science aspects of this story. And I love Huntington's intent to show the way in which women are marginalized or muted during these discussions.
Mafia Romance at its finest
I was engaged from the first line! The twist and turns kept me going and I wish the book was longer!
