Thoughts: Ok read!

Accept my further belief that the heroine is annoying I have to say the character development was quite quick witch made the book really good. Loved the banter and loved the hero from the get go.

Asher Black is not my typical read/listen. I actually don't think that I have ever read a mafia book/romance. I'm so happy that I took the chance though to discover this new to me author!

This was a really entertaining audiobook and the heroine had me laughing throughout most of the book. Lucy's inner monologue and her back and forth banter with Asher was fantastic. Throw in the whole fake fiance trope and this was an awesome debut novel. Even though there are some heavier and more serious moments in the book, Lucy and Asher's interactions and chemistry kept it more lighthearted and playful. Readers/listeners may find a few parts of the story a little over the top, but for me it just made it more fun. This is my first time listening to the narrator, Lacy Laurel. I thought that she did a great job as Lucy and I felt her performance was perfect for the character.

I didn't find the book to be super mafia heavy and though the overall pacing was fine, I felt like the end was a little rushed/abrupt. I would have loved to have an epilogue further into the future as well as Asher's POV, but overall, this was a really enjoyable book and I look forward to reading/listening to more by this author.

im really tired of rating 3 stars but *sighs* it’s just not it for me. not sure if it’s me (my mood, my surrounding, the stress) or it’s the books, really. this book, however, is fun and funny. i’m really not into mafia stuff because i thought they were dark and bdsm and shit, but this book is not. and i’m glad.

i love asher and i love lucy. again, i don’t know if it’s me or their chemistry is lacking. the way they were written romantically… idk? maybe because it was so focused on the slow burn that it simply lacked the burning, and FIRE, you know what i mean? like when simon said “i BURN for you” to daphne (yes, it’s from bridgerton) you could see their burning feelings for each other, but with asher and lucy… meh. sorta.

aside from the lack of spice, I AM SO GLAD IT’S NOT DARK AT ALL i’m so happy, i can continue with the rest of the books in the series!

Hot and sassy

Oh Asher Black. I didn't know what I was missing. First, Lucy is so sassy and spunky. I loved her character. This book is not at all what I was expecting! I thought maybe Dark Mafia romance, but nope! Largely because of Lucy's quirkiness this book was a fun contemporary romance with some mafia elements. And my God, Asher is my new book boyfriend. He's elusive and intimidating at first, but you know when the unattainable man starts to catch the feels? It makes for the best kind of book. I loved Asher Black, and I'm glad to see some of the characters have books if their own! Now to binge on the rest!

DNF at 3rd chapter. YIKES. This heroine is already so annoying . The writing isn’t super great either.
