“My” mommy is also a conspiracy theorist. This book is bleak, but. I did read it in two days.

Dang, I’m conflicted about how I feel about this one. I really enjoyed reading it overall, especially the dynamic between the sisters and the way their whole family felt very real. The dog stuff really struck a nerve with me because I’ve seen dogs attack/get attacked, and that all left me very unsettled. The ending didn’t feel satisfying at all, so I’m not entirely sure what I was supposed to get out of it; however, I was consistently engaged, so again, I’m conflicted.

It's just all very, to use an internet word in the tune of this book, mid. Like there are glimpses of something important like in the mentions of anti semitism inherent to the tradwife/mommy blogger lives, the contentious relationship with the mother and the fraught sisterly relationship but nothing actually materialises. There's no character growth and a whole lot of crying without rhyme or reason, no one introspects anything and while I'm all for no plots only vibes kinda books, this one is also no vibes or all boring vibes. This is very reminiscent of contemporary books written MFA graduates and while there are some gems in those, this is bottom of the barrel.
