This was cute and cozy, and it was nice seeing a POC main character. Cas is a super sweet guy. The author was so preachy, though!
I didn’t even disagree about most of the things the author shoved her characters on a soapbox for, but every time it happened, it was so clunky that I got thrown out of the story. There were big (mental) speeches and also quick one liners, but all so performative and preachy!
The book had some editing errors (incorrect rack/wrack, pronoun case errors) and suffered from a lot of telling instead of showing. I was also a little annoyed at the “Asian cucumber salad” because I don’t know what that means. Namasu, cucumber kimchi, and cucumbers with chili oil and garlic are all cucumber things that can be ordered from Japanese, Korean, and Chinese restaurants, and they all taste different.
I loved the cover art, though!

Cute book and I enjoyed the FMC a lot. The MMC was sweet, but felt a little fearful.

Okay so Cas and Felicia were really cute together. I liked their dynamics and overall it was an enjoyable read. Very cute and light with some good spice! I like the open and honest communication and how the families all interacted as well. It was nice to read something not too heavy but still engaging!

"The Alpha and the Baker" is a delightful entry into the world of shifter romance novels, the story intertwines the lives of an enigmatic alpha and a warm-hearted baker, serving up a plot filled with sweetness and light-hearted romance.
One of the book's strongest suits is its ability to maintain a wholesome tone throughout, making it an ideal pick for newcomers to the shifter genre who might be wary of darker themes. The alpha, typically portrayed with intense and often brooding traits in similar novels, is instead depicted with a gentle demeanor that complements the baker’s sunny and nurturing personality. This unique dynamic sets a comforting stage for their romance to unfold, devoid of the typical angst and perils common in the genre.
The plot progresses smoothly, with just enough twists to keep the pages turning without steering away from its light-hearted core. The supporting characters add a layer of community and camaraderie, enriching the main narrative and echoing the themes of unity and acceptance.
However, readers seeking deep complexity or intense drama might find "The Alpha and the Baker" a bit too mild for their taste. The conflict, while present, resolves with ease, and the stakes never feel overwhelmingly high. Yet, for those who delight in a tale where the journey is pleasant and the destination is assuredly happy, this book is a perfect fit.
In conclusion, "The Alpha and the Baker" is a charming, feel-good romance that is sure to warm the hearts of its readers. It’s a perfect weekend read for anyone looking to dip their toes into the shifter genre without getting swept away by storms.
