YA Horror--Football, Be Careful what you wish for, "wishing people wouldn't be so scared of me"--and the wish comes true--and then he owes his soul to the devil in the pawn shop. Kinda weird--I might have liked it better if I was younger.

i rlly like the getaway so i was hoping to like this too. the main character was a tad bit annoying he was rlly selfish at times and inconsiderate to his friends but nothing horrible. I was hoping for more horror/thriller  bc this was in the horror section at the library but it was more of a supernatural adventure w the devil or some worker of the devil as the main antagonist which is rlly my jam. Also there were far too many football sequences for my personal taste. The end is a huge fight that feels like a marvel action movie. Was not expecting this to be like that and its not something i would usually read and it wasnt done that well honestly but take my review w a grain of salt

Some really awesome concepts criminally underutilized for horror here. Main character + his friend booker have some interesting and emotional moments I really enjoyed…. Pacing for this book was really bad. Real bad. I also found the anachronisms tiresome after awhile but didn’t hate them, just unnecessary.

Interesting premise, great analysis of micro aggressions and decent plot but all of it is bogged down by terrible pacing. This does not need to be 400 pages.

This was another Sequoyah read that I would never have picked up if not for that fact. The writing was excellent but I would argue this is a hard book to enjoy. It’s much darker than what I typically read. For dystopian fans I think it would be a good fit. This is not a book for every reader.
