Percival Everett

Like, meh

K but like… this book is insane. The most wild, satirical, accurate depiction of society. I am speechless. Agog and aghast. And in awe. Percival Everett, you’re a master.

This is probably not something I would have picked up. But after reading James i was very impressed with this authors writing style. The subject matter of this book is a heavy topic but Everet has way with satire and humor that makes dark topics more accessible. I can’t really describe it other than the three books I’ve read by him are all different. The basic plot of the trees is history coming back on families who have been violent towards POC. There’s a lot of language and gore in this book. But given the subject matter it’s not surprising. The author said stories are just stories and how interpret them is up to us. If you like fiction that feels a little too close to real life this book might interest you.

Great beginning that quickly loses momentum and becomes repetitive, it was very tedious reading these ridiculous characters names and backgrounds when they were simply plot devices. The satire worked for me but this could have been a novella honestly. I loved the concept but I was left with a lot of questions and not entirely satisfied with the explanations.

Whoa!

Wow, that was unexpected in all the best ways! Do yourself a favor and don't read any spoilers or any further description on the plot - just enjoy the ride!
