I read First Meetings after falling in love with [b:Ender's Game|375802|Ender's Game (The Ender Quintet, #1)|Orson Scott Card|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388177928s/375802.jpg|2422333] and reading [b:Ender's Shadow|9532|Ender's Shadow (Ender's Shadow, #1)|Orson Scott Card|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388177923s/9532.jpg|3145587], and I had a firm perspective on what this book was about but was disillusioned on what the book was for. I now conclude it's simply a money-maker and written to keep Ender fans happy.
Apart from character names being the same it didn't feel like an [a:Orson Scott Card|589|Orson Scott Card|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1294099952p2/589.jpg] book because it was basic and rushed.

While I didn't care very much for Ender's father's story I still found TEACHER'S PEST fascinating. ENDER'S GAME was dead boring and I rushed through it, and the story wasn't even the same! It made me wonder what parts of the other short stories weren't accurate either. Especially the last story, INVESTMENT COUNSELOR. Is AI Jane actually a character in later books? Or is this some strange spinoff that's never mentioned anywhere else? She seems super cool. See, I can't trust the book not to lie to me after reading the shortened version of Ender's Game.

If TEACHER'S PEST hadn't been so intriguing I would have given the book 2 stars.

This book is interesting, since it's a collection of short stories. "The Polish Boy" is extremely well written and gives me strong Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow vibes. "Teacher's Pest" is also interesting, but honestly it ends too soon in my opinion. "Ender's Game" is honestly not good... surprising since i love the reenvisioned book so much. This story doesn't do anything to make me want to sympathize for Ender or to even understand the importance of some of the people and the war. "Investment Counselor" is an interesting tale, that i feel cuts too many corners trying to introduce elements of Ender's character that we know from the later books.
