A pretty weak simplistic book, not my cup of tea.

A River Enchanted was a very entertaining read. I felt it borderlined on YA but I still thouroughly enjoyed it. The characters were interesting as was the fantasy world they lived in. I appreaciated the wonderful descriptions of all the spirits and the concept of music being able to draw them out. Even though it was almost 500 pages, I sailed through it. I would say though, since it was set in a fictional isle supposedly based on Scottish lore, it was a little offputting that the characters didn't speak like Scots. Even though there were lairds and clans and plaids galore, it would have been better if the characters spoke like Scots, ya ken? (As an Outlander fan, I guess I am spoiled.)

Definitely enjoyed this and will be picking up the sequel soon.

I tried, I really did. Over halfway but I became impatient and just jumped to the end. The writing is sooo slow and overly descriptive it was giving me anxiety. I found myself skimming pages and didn't even feel like I was reading anymore. The book felt promising but overall a bore. The author felt like she was trying way too hard to write in a romantic and flowery way it killed any suspense.
