Really cute and tender exploration of growing out of old friendships, growing into yourself, and healing from a past you’re just beginning to understand. I wasn’t expecting the central conflict to be about a sexual assault, so that took me back a bit. However, the author weaves this story beautifully with rich and diverse characters and I appreciated her voice and heart. The timeline of events and skipping around in years felt a little clunky and, as most YA novels about gen z written by millennials do, some of the “woke” stuff felt contrived and stuffed in. Then again, I remember the way I talked in college at my tiny liberal arts school 😂 I really really liked the sweet and awkward
sex scene between Wes and Sav 🥹
The Wes storyline really grew on me, though at first the crush felt unnecessary. Overall, sweet and heartfelt read that made me feel warm and hopeful for my growth to continue even as a late 20-something 🩶

I ended up burning through this book quickly, which was fun - I haven’t gotten really hooked into a read like that in a long time. I liked Haley’s voice and LOVED Wes, and I thought the exploration of bisexuality in this upper middle-class setting was interesting.
Haley (okay, maybe she isn’t saying this is autobiographical, but it suuuuure felt that way was compellingly honest about the tension between being a straight-passing white girl in her childhood settings and then being a trauma survivor and a queer woman in her college setting. I liked how she grappled with the things that offers her and the things she struggles with, having one foot in each world.
Though the plot moves slowly at points, overall, I thought it was a great read.

I loved this nuanced and slow portrayal of coming out and coming to terms with being raped years later. Sav, the main character, was so sharply written and it was easy to fall into her way of navigating the world.

I really enjoyed this book, even though there were some very heavy topics in it. Sometimes people felt more like a stereotype than a person (Vera being a witch for example). A lot of the internal monologues about trying to be a good feminist, bisexual, ally to marginalized communities, was relatable and made me laugh.
