I can always count on a David Baldacci novel to keep me entertained and this one is no exception. It's definitely a page-turner. Of course, in this day and age with the prevalence of e-readers, I suppose you could say it's a real "page-tapper" or perhaps a "page-swiper" if that suits your style. Given the intensity of this book, particularly the last 150 pages, perhaps we can agree on "page-thumper?" But I digress...
This is the 4th of the Sean King/Michelle Maxwell series. Both are former secret service agents and now private investigators and this time they are called in to assist none other than the first lady of the United States in locating her brother's kidnapped daughter. Of course as the plot unfolds, it ain't quite that simple as several twists and turns complicate the issue. But there is also another main murder plot line transpiring at the same time, involving Michelle's family. Baldacci does the usual great job in meshing the two plots, letting one be handled on a higher, professional level while the other is much more personal in nature. Loved the nature of the main bad guy in this one: brilliant and even sympathetic. And it raises the issue of who really is the bad guy. And, thankfully, Michelle comes face-to-face with a childhood trauma that we were introduced to in the previous novel of this series, [b:Simple Genius|93947|Simple Genius (Sean King & Michelle Maxwell, #3)|David Baldacci|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1171265564s/93947.jpg|935868].
Glad there are more still to read in this series. I'll get to them as soon as I can.

I have avoided Baldacci for a long time, after I tried to read one of his books that was just so hokey and badly written. But this one wasn't bad, and I found myself getting into the story and trying to guess what the result would be. I did, however, think he spent way too much time on Maxwell's personal side story - maybe he had a word count to achieve.

This is the first Baldacci I have read. It was quick and a fun summer read while on vacation.
