I did enjoy reading the book until I reached the end. I *HATED* the ending! To sum up my experience; I would have been better off never reading "Siren" in the first place!
Update after reading My Valentine:
The sequel turned everything around for me. I'm glad I read the two books. It's kind of funny that the author wasn't able to leave things the way they ended in Siren, but she felt compelled to continue her story. I'm happy she did.

I was due for a dark, dirty read. And this hit the spot. I read this book in less than 24 hours in basically one sitting. With that being said, I kind of question my character as to why I enjoyed this book. There are plenty of twists and turns and just the right amount of WRONG. It was fascinating and gripping. There is absolutely no HEA. There is nothing happy about this book. If you are looking for dark... and somewhat of a mindf*ck... grab this. Somehow, I devoured it.

Ok, WOW, so I read Siren by Jaimie Roberts 4 days ago and I still can’t think what to write in my review. It has totally captivated my mind – I’m seriously questioning my sanity after reading it but it was just amazing – I don’t think that I have read a book quite like it – so wrong but also so very right! To be honest I was hooked as soon as I read the synopsis and not having read a book by this author before I didn’t know what to expect. I admit I’m not really one for darker reads but they say change is good – plus I could always stop reading it if it’s too much right?? WRONG! This book won’t let you back out once you are in it and what’s even worse is you actually won’t want too! If you don’t like dark books than take the authors warning and run but believe me it’s a fantastic book!
Scarlet is one hell of a character! I don’t think that I have come across one like her before (even a tamer version). I was totally pulled in to her story and in a funny way could see why she behaved the way she did. Now let’s talk about Reid – is it wrong that I liked him considering what he was actually doing to Scarlet? I just can’t help it but I really liked him – he’s one hot bad boy!
The ending – so I really have to question the state of my mind because after having spent ages trying to turn imaginary pages over on my kindle because I just couldn’t believe that was the end - I still can’t decide whether or not the story is really over or there’s more to come! I really hope there is more!!!
If you are looking for a book that is dark, dangerous, exciting, intriguing and leaves you questioning your sanity then Siren is the book for you! I for one absolutely loved it!
It really can only be 5 stars for this book.

Siren is a story that stems from abuse, in all it's forms. It is also about the follow on affect it has on the lives of the abused, and how it shapes them in the future.
"But hey, I'm a lady. I only vomit rainbows."
It begins shockingly sad, but soon turns devastating, making it incredibly difficult to read with tears blinding you. The things that were Don to Scarlet were horrific. Everything begins to fall into place, making you understand why she became what she was. Noone should have to suffer the attrocities she did, at the hands of a person who is supposed to protect her from hurt not be the cause of it.
"But this is... We shouldn't be-"
As she grows into a woman, so does her twisted thirst for revenge. Along the way, she learns that the deadliest weapon she could possibly exact revenge, is herself. My heart literally hurts for the little girl Scarlet, her innocence stolen so brutally and too early.
"I don't know. I guess we got a little carried away."
Scarlet and Reid's relationship is a needy one. Scarlet needs him to help her feel and he just seems to know excitely what she needs and when. Reid needs to be needed. He also has a dark side that needs to be fed, and Scarlet satisfies that need perfectly.
If you are a hearts and flowers story of love, then this story is probably not for you. Siren is dark, and will drag some pretty intense emotions from you. It is violent in parts, making these bits difficult to read, and deals with topics which some may be sensitive to. Jaimie Roberts robs your attention and you are in the clutches of Reid and Scarlet until the bitter end. I strongly recommend this bookif you like to push the boundaries of safe reads a little and like to take a walk on the darkly wild side. A twisted tale that is so addictive, you will reach the end way too soon. Jaimie produces yet another sensational read.

This is so messed up. So freaking messed up. It goes far beyond normal messed up and shoots into the realm of the ‘no return type of messed up’. It’s a wtf type of story.
Honestly, I think this is one of the most messed up storylines/characters I have ever had the (mid)fortune of reading. Jaimie Roberts sure knows how to create depraved characters that are literally the stuff of nightmares.
The story focuses on Scarlet, a femme fatale with a desire to exact vengeance on everyone who wronged or failed her growing up and continued to to this day.
She grew up abused and raped by her father (at least, someone she thought was her father) and no one looked close enough to see the signs. Even when she told her mother and sister outright that she was being abused, they denied it and refused to believe it.
Years later, she’s on a mission to get her revenge starting with her dad, next on the list is her mom and last, but not least, her sister Amber. They all managed to fail her in the worst way possible, so I, truthfully, was happy to see them in pieces by the end.
Now, this isn’t a classic revenge book. There’s a lot of disturbing moments that you’d think would not happen after everything that occurred during Scarlet’s childhood, yet they happen anyway. It’s so wrong and not right at all. There is nothing redeemable about any of those f-ed up moments.
The only redeemable thing was seeing Scarlet with Stuart. It was like seeing a switch flick: one second she was a dark void, the next she actually had something to live for, something that made her happy. I love Stuart guys. He’s amazing. I hate Reid. I’m sorry to anyone who likes him, but I think he sucks. He’s a sucky duck-face.
If you’re someone who can only take small doses of dark novels, this may be a bit too much to handle.
If you don’t topically read the dark genre, I would not suggest to start with this one either...unless you just want to throw yourself into the deep end. Then go ahead.
Subject Matter Warnings: Child molestation, rape, abortion, cheating, physical abuse, bdsm and sick obsessions that will leave you incredibly uncomfortable and confused as to why they are even a thing. This book deals with some difficult subject matter, so you should be aware of that going into it.

This book left me with so many confusing emotions. I liked the plot and the surprise factor, but it had many of the things I hate in books. One of the things I DESPISE is a love triangle, and this book basically had a freaking love square. Scarlet loved Reid, Stuart (team Stuart by the way), and sadly her rapist Richard (otherwise known as Daddy). I was getting whiplash trying to keep up with this girl's emotions. One minute she could only see a future with this guy and the next she couldn't think of anyone but the other guy.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, back to the beginning... Scarlet had a horrible childhood, as she was being raped and beat on by her dad. I wanted to bust Scarlet's mom and sister upside their heads for ignoring her plea's for help. They were useless, blind individuals.

Scarlet finally runs away after a series of horrible events and ends up homeless and soon after turning tricks to make ends meet. In comes Reid with all his bright ideas to have Scarlet have sex with powerful men and later blackmail them so Reid and her can go away together to Spain and ride off into the sunset. Are you looking at him as suspiciously as I was? So while Reid is basically pimping her out, Scarlet integrates herself back into her family so she can get her revenge on them.
Now Scarlet was a bit of a conundrum for me. While many of her actions had me asking

I understood why she felt she needed to go down that road. She needed them to know they had greatly wronged her, to feel an ounce of the pain they'd left her to suffer in. I get it. But her sleeping with her rapist was just so freaking wrong. I wanted to slap the crap out of her and then wrap her in a tight hug because she needed both. She was sleeping with her sister's husband and videotaping it so she could use it later. She had convinced them she would carry their baby. She'd slept with her mother's new husband. Again, I get why she did the things she did. This was what happened when others left you to fend for yourself against a monster.

Then comes Stuart. Good boy Stuart. I was rooting for him big time. He liked Scarlet since high school, but when he asked her out, she had to shoot him down knowing her dad would never let her go. Fast forward to the present and he comes into the picture with all his happiness and light. Although I wanted Stuart to win in the end, I was wondering how he could ever accept Scarlet. Which brings me to the second thing I hate in books: when I read about people having sex with multiple partners. But what bothered me the MOST was that I read intimate details about each guy Scarlet was with, but then she finally has sex with Stuart and I get a few words and then a scene jump. WHAT? The sex I was most interested in reading about. Really?

So now she loves Reid, is falling in love with Stuart, and has some sick addiction to being with her dad (who at this point we learn is really her stepdad). Love square. As you can see, she's spiraling. Going to meet with her stepdad for sex more and more, doing jobs with Reid, and going on cute little dates with clueless Stuart. Meanwhile her stepdad is getting more and more possessive and Reid is getting them all ready to leave for Spain. Eventually things come to a head and dirty old stepdad busts into Scarlet's home in a jealous rage and proceeds to rape her again, but Reid comes in and kills him. While I wanted to cheer, I realized at that moment all was not right with Reid, as Scarlet's stepdad seemed to notice him. So while Reid is away in Spain, Scarlet goes to her family's house to remember her late stepdad (the police don't know who killed him) and SECRETS ARE LAID BARE.

Scarlet has had enough and plays back videos of her stepdad basically admitting he used to force himself on her and coming back for more, her sleeping with her mother's new husband, her sleeping with her sister's husband. Of course they're all shocked and appalled, but the worst part was that Stuart walked in during all this. Poor Stuart. Scarlet storms out saying she warned him she would break his heart. She stays away for a few days and make plans with Reid to leave asap. On the night before she's supposed to leave, she finds herself in Stuart's arms and bed. She finally realizes he's the one for her and they make a plan to escape Reid's possessive butt. She goes to Reid's office to take some of the cash and opens an envelope in his safe. And the disgusting truth comes out... His father in none other than (drumroll please) dirty old stepdad Richard.

Reid had been watching Scarlet long before she knew he existed. His possessive and often obsessive ways take on a whole new light. Scarlet goes home to pack to go meet Stuart, but crazy Reid is waiting in her room with pictures of her and Stuart from the night before. He then rapes her and (what sounds like) kills her. Some people just don't get happy endings.
So overall, good read. Although I didn't like certain aspects of it, it did keep my interest for the most part.

You know what, I LOVE THIS BOOK. This book is so out of my comfort zone and yet has everything I want in my smut. How did that happen? This would be hard to explain without revealing some dark secrets about yours truly.
Any-who, this book is fucked up. And I love this brand of fucked-up. Just imagine the worst thing a girl could go through and that's Scarlet Valentine for you. Was she a redeemable character? No, and I didn't want her to be. I went into this book, not wanting some bad girl gone good plot. I wanted to see a depraved character turned more depraved and fucked up everything and everyone and ended everything in one complete major explosion!
What I get was a cliffhanger.
At one point, I was rooting for the father. Although I know how his fate would end based on the prologue. Yup, I was rooting for the damn rapist who raped his 14 years old daughter. I don't need y'all to condemn me for feeling like that. I'm fucked up too.
“My only desire in the world is to have my revenge against everyone who hurt me, disbelieved me, and made me into the bad guy. After that, I don’t know... But, right now, nothing in the world matters but my payback. And I’m going to love every sick, twisted minute of it.”
Fuck yes!

Wtf did I just read?! I’m not sure how to rate this. I love taboo but even this one had me questioning so much. Like I want to ask so many questions that went unanswered.

Ok the dad rapes the daughter but also physically abuses her yet later in life appears to be in love and obsessed with her. This made zero sense to me. And her wanting him later in life made zero sense to me.
I seriously did not know who the hell to root for in this book. I felt no connection with Stuart. I kept thinking surely it would be a plot twist where he was the bad guy. Ugh I just don’t know how to feel at all yet the book totally intrigued me. Not sure o can actually recommend though. Just too many holes I guess
