There are whispers that are speaking to Angelina, making her want to do dark things. She is afraid of what she is becoming and doesn't know how to make it stop. Thrown together with Hunter, a man who has lost everything and has his own troubles, they fight together trying to break the tangled web they have found themselves in and maybe find something and maybe something neither one was expecting.

You met Angelina, the perfect sister in Playing Hooky. Here is her story. I found myself infatuated with Hunter, very intriguing character. Great series thus far.

3.5 stars - Mixed feelings with this one. Lots of love for the world, though there is a lot of lore to keep track of and my brain isn't always used to so many new creatures. Bit of an information overload. Loved that we got to see Angelina's side to the story, and since I honestly had NO inkling what her story was, it was intriguing to learn about it. It took me a bit to get into it b/c it was 2 separate stories for such a long time....hard to track back to the other character in the next chapter when there isn't much crossover. I also found that if I hadn't just recently read Playing Hooky, some of the timeline had gaps in it that left me floundering....(ex - when Emma confronts her when she steals the Siren, some of the dialogue is missing and so it doesn't make as much sense -- forgot what the "Shut up, shut up" was about).

And Angelina herself left me with mixed feelings. She had some great moments, and I thought the empath stuff was really intriguing. And when she showed some strength (with her friend), I really liked her. But so much of the story she was so weak....and maybe I wouldn't have felt that way so much if the resolution wasn't so quick and seemingly easy.
SpoilerThe fae/dragon says they've been lying to her, and then she just figures it all out? Maybe it was just me, I was just a little unsatisfied.

Hunter on the other hand, LOVE LOVE LOVE! He was intriguing, he had depth, I really felt for him and believed his curiosity for Angelina.

So, while it seems like a lot of negative in this review, I really did genuinely enjoy the world and the story. But I have a feeling I'm going to like where it's going more, in future books. Regardless, looking forward to more.....so many questions need answers to!!!
