Wow, there are so many hints towards what comes in this book. Once again, we get #GirlBoss Rae Sloane -- I LOVE HER! There is a whole passage where is thinking about the Emperor where there were "fears that the old man was eternal and lived not one life but many." Such an early yet really telling of the truth seen in The Rise of Skywalker.
Getting to see the New Republic trying their best to be better than the Empire is surprisingly really interesting. Once again, getting some backstory for Hux and the genius of the Empire's endorsement of the family unit was an exciting nod to the reality of many authoritarian regimes.
I can't leave a review without mentioning the Takondana Interlude. Roe, this story broke me. And ISB officer who watched the New Republic slaughter his five-year-old son and the rest of his family. Plus, I loved seeing the random chaotic shit Mister Bones got up to in the background.
However, my most considerable criticism of the Aftermath books is the Interludes; they are fantastic stories that really ruin the flow. But overall, I loved this book. The plot twists are so good.

Much better than the first in this series. I'm glad I decided to read it.
this was better than the first book by a longshot. also can we please get sinjir the boyfriend he deserves????
This is exactly what I was looking for in a book between 6&7
It’s really hard for me to review this book, I really enjoyed it but it’s hard to put into words why. Wendig really captures the Star Wars universe perfectly, as soon as I opened the book to read, it felt like I was watching it as a movie in my head. He has the characters and everything else down pat, he really knows how to bring it all to life in an amazing way. This series is a definite must read for Star Wars and Wendig fans!
Good story but I felt as if George Lucas was consulted on dialogue.
Like the first book in the series, I really enjoyed Wendig's style in taking us through the changed post-ROTJ landscape. Seeing all the pieces together (and a glimmer of some old-school Rogue Squadron rebellious behavior, even though it wasn't Rogue Squadron) it felt familiar.
Though. I do have to say the whole Norah/Wedge/Husband back from the dead felt too similar to the Wedge/Iella/Husband back from the dead storyline. So much so that I called the brainwashing long before we knew the bad guys were going to let them take the prison.
All that being said some of my favorite parts of the book were watching the Imperials develop. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I listened to this on Audible and I think that coloured how I feel about it a great deal. I don't think I would be as invested in the story if I had read it.
I am still in love with the characters though and enjoyed getting to have more of the original characters from the Star Wars universe.
There were a lot of real heartbreaking moments for me, I totally looked like a freak on the treadmill tears streaming down my face because I was over involved in this book.
