YA is not my jam, but i loved this book. It was entertaining and impactful to me. I see myself in this book as one a background character. The visceral description of the main character's experience has helped me see where I have gaps in my empathy. I'm putting Thomas's other books on my "to-read" list for the next time I take a break from my Sci-fi books.

I decided to read this one when the local school board took it out of the curriculum. Really powerful stuff.

I can't think of a good thing to write about this book that hadn't been said before.
I live in a country where there are not a lot of POC and to me, issues their communities face around the world are not tangible.
This book made me smile, cry, cheer on, and swear like a sailor. It has a very approachable way of such a heavy and disgusting subject and manages to paint an exquisite portrait of people, places, and culture.
I was afraid I missed the train because I read it only in the summer of 2022, but this will definitely become a classic.

This book was just phenomenal. I thought the pacing was great and the writing was easy to understand and keep up with. I loved the characters and empathized with Star. I felt like every character was alive and their personalities jumped off the pages and made them real which a lot of books strive to do.
This book made me tear up so many times and it was so hard to keep those tears back while I was at work. I really wish this wasn’t still our current reality but I liked that the book didn’t sugarcoat it and make it seem like everything was going to be fine soon. Instead it left us with a message that everyone needs to continue to work together to change the system and we shouldn’t stop doing the right thing no matter what. We should always be trying to make things better than they were before.

Wow... this book....
There are no words to describe this book. It is eye opening and I am so glad I read it.
