This was one of my favorite sci-fi series....but maybe I was just crazy when I read the first four books. This was insanely repetitive and boring. Hard-to-follow space battle. Talk about what about the expectations of being a back from the dead war hero. Repeat.
More of the same broad content, with different details. I quite liked this one more than the last though. If you've read a few of these, you know what you're in for, so no more detail is really essential at this point. I was happy enough consuming it.
Man the conclusion of this series was just good. Overall liked it but it's not great.
I would rate Leviathan as a 3.5 if I could. Mr. Campbell introduced some deep questions that I look forward to in my science fiction but the plot fell flat for me. But if you love military-fleet actions then you will enjoy this series.
Many of the characters have realistic personalities that fit within the world-building. Gioninni is actually my favorite character in the series. He is humorous and is many times used in the plot to solve difficult circumstances.
The ending is satisfying enough for the plot arc but I question it. I'll avoid details for spoilers. But to me, the outcomes will lead to the undercutting of many of the characters and plot development.
So, I will continue on with "The Lost Stars" series. This part of the universe takes the perspective of the Syndics, who were the antagonists in the first series. My reason is that I'm curious about their corporate society vs the democratic and honor-bound Alliance, of the first two series.
We will see how it goes.

A fitting ending for a captivating series that still makes me wonder why no one ever lets linguists or anthropologists take a look at their aliens, it would have saved them some headaches. Still, I was entertained, I came to like and care for most of the characters and am sad to leave this series behind.
This, i believe, is the last book in the Lost Fleet series. To be honest, i am glad it is. The last few books seemed to drag a little with stories that were not as gripping as the others, and were only held together by the cast of characters that i have grown attached to.
The last book upped the story and there was a very real chance of it not working out for the Alliance fleet. I was gripped by the ending, but the start was a little slow for me.
I was pleased with how the story ended. There is a hint that there may be another story in the future, but this could take the form of short stories, novella rather than a full novel.
All in all, this was a good series that dropped a little towards the end (become very Soap Opera). Glad i read them - now on to the Lost Star series.

Leviathan is the continuing adventures of Admiral John Geary (Black Jack) and the Alliance Fleet he commands. Jack Campbell returns us to the space battlefields that I have enjoyed so much in the series so far with lots of actions and a few new twists to keep it interesting. This was a quick and fun read that will hopefully lead to some additional storylines in the future.
4 stars for a great military sci-fi story and recommended for all Campbell fans!!!
