Very realistic characters rendered in a style that is at times intensely poetic and strangely captivating.

It's a coming of age story. But I enjoyed reading it. I loved how it ended.
This is not a love story. It's a story about family, it's a story about an underdog finally finding his place in world. It's a story of brothers. Have I mentioned I loved the ending??

Markus Zusak strikes again. I didn't like this one as much as I liked [b:I Am the Messenger|19057|I Am the Messenger|Markus Zusak|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167188997s/19057.jpg|2737065] or [b:The Book Thief|19063|The Book Thief|Markus Zusak|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ZFi566bFL._SL75_.jpg|878368], but I believe this one was written before those. I am completely drawn to Zusak's writing style and this book was definitely not a disappointment. His writing is what I can only describe as beautiful. It packs a ton of meaning and always leaves me feeling better about life in general. I have a book quote journal, and I never fail to find at least a few gems in Zusak's books to write down (I have so many quotes from The Book Thief and I Am the Messenger, it's ridiculous).

Kind of slow and indulgent. Teen boy falls in love with the idea of being in love. Then he has a falling out with his brothers. Unfortunately, the falling out seems weirdly unfounded based off of what happened in the book. It's a good book for the male hopeless romantic. It is the third book in a series, and though considered a standalone, it is missing most character development. That made it a little tough to read. And I don't care enough about the characters to go back and read the first two
